Eu já vi alguns casos bem interessantes de uso de SMS em países africanos, e são tipo ideias super simples pra entregar informações pra galera que mora onde o vento faz a curva (e onde geralmente outros serviços mais 'sofisticados' não chegam). Mas uma coisa que não sai da minha cabeça é porque SMS é tão fucking expensive no Brasil? É tipo MUITO mais caro que em qualquer lugar no mundo, até mesmo em locais com infra-estrutura de telecomunicação extremamente fragilizados na África.

 

Dalton trouxe o Front Line SMS como alternativa, Liquuid também comentou sobre o valor excessivo dos serviços:

SMS é a forma mais cara de comunicação que existe. Até alguns anos atrás era mais caro que transferir fotos do telescópio hubble, mesmo com essas promoções aqui no Brasil não sei se a coisa mudou no resto do mundo. Um artigo do Meiobit fez a conta na época, enquanto pra transferir 1 Mb do Hubble custa R$279, pra transferir 1Mb de SMS custava R$1.226,99. Sem dúvida a galinha dos ovos de ouro das operadoras. Mesmo com promoções e o caramba, é mais barato mandar um tweet do que um SMS talvez não tanto, já que tem esses planos de 0,50 cents ilimitados.

Felipe Fonseca participará da Virada Digital em Paraty

Acontece nos próximos dias 11, 12 e 13 de maio, a primeira edição do Festival Virada Digital, em Paraty. De acordo com o site do evento:

 

O Festival Virada Digital vai promover o debate e o compartilhamento de conhecimentos em 16 áreas de conteúdo, divulgando a criatividade e o empreendedorismo e fortalecendo o fomento de novas tecnologias voltadas à produção sustentável de bens e serviços para a população brasileira.

 

Felipe Fonseca estará por lá, no dia 12 pela manhã, das 9hs às 10hs com o painel "Laboratórios de garagem, hackerspaces e o futuro da ciência". Na descrição da programação, a atividade questionará:

(...) a ideia de que a inovação tecnológica se desenvolva apenas nos grandes centros de pesquisas empresariais e acadêmicos. Defende os hackerspaces e os laboratórios individuais de garagem como espaços de inovação autônomos, dinâmicos, informais nos quais o conhecimento circula de maneira livre e ágil. O conhecimento científico deixou de ser propriedade exclusiva da universidade e das grandes corporações. Ele está descentralizado e cada vez mais projetos que nasceram em pequenas “garagens” ganham o mundo e contribuem para o futuro da ciência.
